The End.
The last three weeks have been a mission to say the least, I can see that Lucia and the rest of the team are rushed off there feet. when I got in on Monday morning I saw the stage build but no walls or anything and the walls were covered in white material which Lucia managed to get from blackout.
Blackout supplies events with all sorts of materials and drapes. The stage was hired from white light and it cost us half of our £500 budget which was a bit of a problem so we couldn’t spend the money anywhere else.
On the Monday me and a few others put up the walls and hinged them together so that they wouldn’t fall down as they were quite heavy. as time drew nearer to the event tension built.
Tuesday I went back to the nursery gallery and the lighting and sound was all being set up fast, I helped tape down wires and clean the floors, I just helped where I could which I enjoyed.
At the end of the day I was asked by Vero to help her on Wednesday with the fittings in a lecture theatre, I was excited to help so the next day I came in at 10am to help her. Most of that day consisted in me helping the girls in and out of the costumes as some of them were too delicate to just force on. I felt like I had to keep the models entertained because the day wasn’t t he most organised. By the end of the day I left that room around 2 and headed to help the Nursery gallery team again in anything I could do.
THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY
Its event day and everyone is stressed and excited, we finally got a stage manager in the final week which was Jonathan and he whipped everyone into shape, we had quite a few rehearsals and I then offered to help meg with labelling the seating and helping her sign people in as they turned up, everything was looking perfect, except, I realised that the show was very short and we suggested to the producers to have a small interval to get people in and out of the clothes easier but they rejected the request. I personally knew there were more clothes in the back as I had spent all day running the clothes up to a room for another fitting and also the day before doing the same. so I did not understand why we couldn’t extend the show as it was way too short, especially as people had travelled far just to come to the show.
So finally I sat in the reception with Meg as we ticked people in and gave them wrist bands and guest stickers, I enjoyed this bit until people started showing up that were not invited or signed in and Meg started getting stressed out as our tutor was breathing down our necks.
I ended taking people to the room and I got shut in there as the show started, Meg got shut out and I know was quite distressed and upset unfortunately.
I watched the show and this time it felt longer and was pretty brilliant. I really was proud of our class in that moment as I looked around and saw all of us have a moment of relief as the short documentary played and the projections worked and the clothes and models looked amazing, I really was proud.
After the show everyone was allowed to go into the Darkroom bar to have a drink, but we had to all help the tech team put all the tech away, this included all lights and wires and projectors.
after we all went for a drink and had a great time, not realising in the morning we had to clear the gallery and tidy everything up. people were coming to collect things in the morning and we were not looking forward to waking up.
The next day we all woke up with small headaches and head down to the university to help clear everything else away, feeling sorry for our selves and being shattered from a weeks worth of grafting when we finished that day we all wanted to just sleep.
THE END….
or is it…
We defiantly would do it all over again.
